Wenge

Wenge is an exotic kind of wood with its natural habitat being the open forests of Zaire, Cameroon and Gabon.  The heartwood is dark brown, almost black, while the quartersawn surface is decorated with fine pencil-thin, light tan and white lines.  The sapwood is yellowish and markedly separated from the heartwood. Its resistance to bending and breaking is really high, so sharp tools are required! It is moderately hard and resistant to wearing and weather conditions. Strength qualities in compression parallel to grain are exceptionally high!

It is a good choice for flooring strips and blocks and for interior and exterior joinery and general construction work.  It is particularly easy to use in furnishings, flooring and outdoor constructions. However, it can also be used as veneer and as a surface coating.
